Death Valley Winter Light Photography Tour

Explore the 3.2 million acre Death Valley National Park with a location expert, with real time feedback and instruction. Your lead instructor and guide is local pro photographer Jeff Sullivan, who wrote the book on landscape photography in Southern California. His 320-page guidebook 'Photographing California Vol. 2 – South' covers Death Valley as its largest chapter. Jeff personally leads all of his workshops, so you can be sure that he is planning every trip for a peak season and a combination of day and night photography opportunities: wildflowers, Milky Way, meteor showers and moon phases.

The December Death Valley workshop focuses on the warm light and low angle of the winter sun, as its southern position aligns with and side-lights parallel dune ridges in some of the many sand dunes in the Death Valley area. Sunrise close to 07:00 and sunset shortly after 16:30 reduce productive mid-day hours while enabling night photography which can start at a comfortable 18:30 and end in time for a good night’s sleep.

Jeff entered the digital imaging field in 1985 at the Digital Printing and Imaging Division of Tektronix, upon earning his degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. An avid fan of astronomy and space, he was been awarded Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2011 (People and Space special prize) by the Royal Observatory, Greenwich.

Review his 2019 schedule for other workshops including Eastern Sierra Fall Colors, Mono Lake Winter and Moon Rise, Yosemite National Park and more.

  1. Please send information on the Death Valley (Dec.) opportunity and Joshua at night if you offer anything like that.
    Thank you
