Out in Tanzania’s Serengeti, the great migration meanders its way toward the South, where in the second half of February, a million baby wildebeest are born. This event, driven by fresh rain and quality forage, draws a host of predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas – and it drives the timing of our Tanzania Photography Safari!

This time of year is also outstanding in the Ngorongoro Crater, a giant bowl filled with a wide variety of hoofed animals, predators (large and small) and birds – from colorful rollers to classy crowned cranes to imposing raptors to ostriches.

Tarangire National Park can be at its best at this time of year with lush grasses, great herds of elephants grazing and playing in the river often posing with giant baobab trees. In fact, this may be the best place in Africa to photograph the baobabs – and we love to silhouette them against the rising or setting sun.

If you are contemplating your first photography venture into sub-Saharan Africa – or your once in a lifetime trip – this is the safari we suggest. It gives you a sense of Africa before the changes and population explosion that came with colonial times – and the huge parks and reserves of Tanzania tell a story of wildlife that is there without being assembled or fenced in by humans. This, of all our photography adventures, is most often referenced as “the trip of my lifetime” and “life changing”.

We have done the homework. You will be at the right place at the right time. There will be comfortable lodgings where you have ample electricity to download and recharge. And we will help you grow as a photographer!
