Patagonia Photo Tour April 2021

This stretch of the world is known to be one of the most sought-after locations for passionate outdoor and landscape photographers. As we want you to focus on capture the charm and soul of Patagonia, we have curated an itinerary that takes into account both easy access to the locations and convenience. Our group will be staying as close as possible to the shooting locations without sacrificing comfort. This photo tour will be led by two tour leaders and a local mountain guide expert. A team of two leaders ensures flexibility for the group and provides the perfect mix of photo possibilities throughout the tour in Patagonia.

Itinerary Details

Day 1 | Arriving in Patagonia, El Calafate. Airport Code (FTE) | (D)
After arriving in El Calafate, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Today you’ll meet your tour leaders, the other guests, and savor the first meal together in a traditional Argentinian Steakhouse.

Day 2 | El Calafate to El Chalten (213 KM) | (B, L)
Today we have an early start, and we drive towards El Chalten. This charming town is known as Argentina’s trekking capital and home of the Fitz Roy, one of the most beautiful peaks in Patagonia. We make stops along the way at designated viewpoints, and we visit Estancia La Leona. We'll arrive around noon and have lunch in el Chalten. After check-in in the hotel, we’ll meet our local guide and have our first sunset outing.

Day 3 | El Chalten to Lago del Desierto (37 KM) | (B, BL, D)
Today we have an early start as we move by ground transportation to Lago del Desierto. We'll spend the day photographing Huemul Lagoon and Glacier, the Huemules Reserve, and we'll also visit the Blue and Green Lagoon.

Day 4 | El Chalten | (B, BL, D)
Today we start with a sunrise shoot around the Eco Camp. After breakfast, we'll transfer to Hosteria del Pilar and hike to Poincenot Camp in preparation for hiking and photograph Laguna de Los Tres, one of the highlights of the trip. This is a moderate hike, almost flat. The track along Rio Blanco is interestingly enough with plenty of interesting subjects to photograph along the way. Rest time in the afternoon, there are plenty of opportunities for photography around the campsite. Lunch and dinner will be served in tented domes in Poincenot Campsite.

Day 5 | El Chalten | (B, BL)
Early morning we hike to Laguna de Los Tres and photograph the Fitz Roy (2 hours, moderate and with some elevation gain). We’ll return to camp, have a relaxed morning and lunch there. In the afternoon, we hike back to El Chalten (around 3 hours, mostly downhill). We'll stop for photography along the way.

Day 6 | El Chalten | (B)
Today we make our hike to the Lookout Cerro Torre for sunrise. This is a short hike from the base. Then return to El Chalten, and the rest of the day is free. Take a rest, download images, and possibly get some tutoring from the tour leaders. For the most adventurers, there will be an option to continue the trail and hike to the base of Cerro Torre for even more impressive photos.

Day 7 | El Chalten to Torres del Paine (380 KM + Border Crossing) | (B, D)
Today is travel and border crossing, from El Chalten to Torres del Paine national park in Chile. We'll arrive at Torres del Paine by the main entrance of Amarga lake. We will drive by private transportation through the national park with destination Serrano River, and we’ll connect with our local guide.

Day 8 | Torres del Paine | (B, L, D)
This morning we'll transfer to Pingo parking area. We'll hike up Mount Ferrier (short and steep); however, you'll be rewarded with one of the most fantastic lookout points in Torres del Paine. To make the most of the day, we'll plan the afternoon accordingly to timing and weather conditions as we move to Lake Pehoe area. We'll check in Hosteria Pehoe, our home for the next 3 nights. Situated on an incomparable location - its own small island within the Toro Lake- this is the ideal place to stay and photograph around the National Park.

Day 9 | Torres del Paine | (B, L, D)
Today we'll start early and head over to photograph the Salto Grande Waterfall at sunrise. We'll then continue with an easy hike to shoot from the Horns Lookout. We'll return to the hotel for lunch and have some rest time. In the afternoon, we will start hiking for about an hour to Mirador del Condor, the lookout points to the whole Paine mountain range, Lagoon Honda, Sarmiento, and Verde.

Day 10 | Torres del Paine | (B, L, D)
Today we'll photograph the Cascada Paine, then continue to Laguna Azul. We'll stop along the way to photograph in designated spots and lookouts. We'll have options in the afternoon to photograph other sights or if you prefer take some free time to rest.

Day 11 | Torres del Paine to El Calafate (360 KM + Border Crossing) | (B L)
Today we trace our steps back and travel to Argentina via private transport. We transfer to the small town of Cerro Castillo, and we'll have lunch in a local restaurant. We'll then cross the border and make it back to El Calafate.

Day 12 | El Calafate (B,BL,D)
Today we’ll leave early, and we’ll head out to explore the Glacier Perito Moreno, perhaps one the most iconic glaciers of the Patagonian Ice Fields. We’ll have an opportunity to have a close encounter with the massive ice walls as we navigate one of the sides or Argentino Lake. We'll finish the day with a walking tour of the famous walkways of the National Park.

Day 13 | El Calafate (B)
Today is time to say goodby to Patagonia. Transfer out to the airport and travel back home. Alternatively, you can continue to join us for a three-day extension to the Patagonian Ranch Nibepo Aike and to the remote pioneer's region of the National Park.

The tour is open to all levels of photographic skills, from beginner to experienced. However, there will be no formal workshops or critiques. We will share knowledge and skills along the way, in the spirit of real adventurers.
