Bandon Beach probably has the best collection of photogenic sea stacks along the entire Oregon Coast, and they are right outside the hotel room windows. This is also probably the best place on the coast for sunsets.
For a photographer, the entire Bandon area is a treat. There are sea stacks, of course, but there are also harbors, tide pools, nets, crashing waves, the formal gardens of Shore Acres State Park as well as three lighthouses, including the towering Cape Blanco Lighthouse. The town of Bandon itself is a great spot for being a tourist, buying souvenirs and making travel images.
During this trip we will spend plenty of time photographing the sea stacks, trying to capture dramatic sunset light or playing with long exposures to create ethereal ocean surf images. The cliffs at Shore Acres could also provide us with the opportunity to photograph crashing waves, depending on the tides and weather conditions.
Rod Barbee and Cliff Zenor will help you with the finer points of landscape and close up photography, including tips on hyperfocal focusing, using graduated filters, using long exposures, blending exposures and stacking images for focus as well as finding and thinking through compositions.
We will also take time during the middle of the day for group critiques and helping you to process images using Lightroom and Photoshop.
