The New Year's Aurora photo tour in December 2019 is a 4-night (optional 7-night) tour with Thomas Kast and takes place around the village of Kilpisjarvi in Finnish Lapland.
We will have special light conditions as we will experience the polar night about 310km inside the Arctic Circle. This does not mean that it would be 24 hours darkness. For several hours the sun will be close below the horizon, creating moody light. Once darkness sets we will look into the skies for the ever-mesmerizing Aurora Borealis.
One highlight will be New Year's Eve. First we will celebrate in Finland, hopefully with a mix of fireworks and Northern Lights. Soon after that we will head towards Norway. We enter another time-zone and have the chance to celebrate the New Year a second time.
The moon will be illuminated from 11-75%, growing brighter throughout the week. This means opting in for a full week will allow a broad range of creative compositions of starry night sky in combination with strong shadows on the snow.
A maximum of six participants makes this an intimate photo tour. As always and everywhere the weather is an unknown. The itinerary and its order might change depending on the weather conditions.
