The Galapagos Islands, straddling the equator off the coast of Ecuador, were a laboratory for the evolution of species – and a major stimulus to Darwin as he pioneered thoughts about evolution.
Join us as we find giant tortoises, three kinds of boobies, marine and land iguanas, Galapagos penguins, flightless cormorants, fur seals and sea lions, sea turtles, dolphins and whales, owls, tropic birds, frigate birds and Galapagos gull. The list goes on and on. We are not here to document them, but to create art around these special species – that show little to no fear of humans.
Spawned by hotspot deep in the Ocean, the islands are volcanic, pushing above the sea surface, gathering life, building soil, and then eroding back beneath the waves. These stages of island development yield landscapes ranging from black-on-black lava flows to lush vegetation – and literally everything in between. Think art! Think dramatic sunrises and sunsets.
Our group will have exclusive use of a private yacht and sail from island to island. We have picked a route that takes us away from the crowds (more about that on the webpage) and enables us to spend more time ashore on each outing than is customary. We will move at photographer speed – rather than doing the ‘efficient’ tour landings that most groups get. And we will have opportunities to photograph while snorkelling.
For us, the Galapagos has yielded more “best trip of my life” and “this changed the way I see the world” comments than any other photography experience we deliver, with the possible exception of our February Tanzania Safari.
This sailing will fill early – so please don’t plan on joining the group as we get close to departure date! We hope you will choose to join us!
