Lofoten is known for a distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. The Lofoten Islands are draped across the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea, far above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers a breathtaking landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords and a multi complex set of islands, many of them connected via bridge or causeway. If you are seeking an unforgettable photographic experience, Lofoten will definitely not let you down.
Between the mainland and the Lofoten lies the open Vestfjord. The archipelago is known for its exceptional natural beauty, the picturesque fishing settlements, the Rorbu (fishermen's cottages) and the stockfish. Due to the Golf Stream the climate is mild, despite the latitude north of the Arctic Circle. Between May 25 and July 17 you can experience the Midnight Sun, and from early May the nights are bright.
The tourist season begins in summer, – typically June till August – with a major number of visitors. Yet, it is the other seasons that offer the most in terms of experience. Only then you can truly see the beauty of this wild and exotic corner of the Earth.
We chose the winter months because the mood of the place and the light touching every part of the scene are out of this world.
